We are in Rye Colorado!

We made it safely to Rye, Colorado.

I am having problems with my PC, so emails and Blogging are going to be sparse.

Remind me to tell you about……

How beautiful and cool CapRock Canyons State Park is
The Turkey we saw in Turkey, Texas, home of cowboy legend Bob Wills.
Quitaque, Texas (Pronounced “Kitty Quay”)
The 30 mile bike ride and Julie’s race with 2 mule Deer.
The 9.4 mile hike with… Assassin Flies, 5 Texas Horned Lizards, 2 more turkeys; a momma and a baby, the people with insect repellent who saved Julie from the Assassin Flies, Railway tunnel full of Brazilin Free Tail Bats, sore legs
The Fort Worth to Denver Railroad.
The Steel Buffaloes
The Roadrunners.
The Subway sandwich we threw away because the ladies (2 of them) who made it coughed all over it.
How easy it was going over Raton Pass with the 4Runner and the Camper.
Backing in the camper at Mark and Mary’s cabin in Rye.
Cool coffee shop in Rye called “Rye Rendezvous”

23 June Travel plans Waco to Caprock Canyons

attempt to attach pics

Here are a few pictures. The lens kinda fogged up this morning.

23-June Post From KOA in Waco

I am putzing around this morning. I got up around 6:00 and it is 6:47 as I write this. Julie is sleeping. This blogging takes a little time, so I am going to make this a shorter one. I will also likely create a short one tonight when we get into Caprock Canyons State Park, and a longer one tomorrow because we are not traveling tomorrow.

I am going to attempt to attach 2 pictures to the Blog.

Yesterday, we get 17.5 MPG in the 4Runner from our house in Houston to The KOA Campground North of Waco. I am pretty happy with that. I like the Idea of having all of the amenities of a Class A mobile home with all of the economy and ecological “greenness” of 17.5 MPG.

I am becoming a fan of the Toyota 4Runner. I miss being able to just through stuff in the back of the pick up truck, but this thing sure does ride smoothly.

I’d recommend this campground to anyone coming through Waco. It is pretty, has trees, and a little stream running through it. It also has “cozy cabins” for those who are not pulling RVs. If you come here, going to Yianni’s Greek Restaurant is a “must do”. It is walking distance from the KOA. Price is a little high, but what the heck, we are on vacation and the food was world class.

Day 1 22-June Wonderful Day!

We arrived safely at the KOA campground 18 miles north of Waco. No problems except that I am too tired to think.

I woke up ~ 4 AM today worried about pulling the trailer with our new 4Runner. I logged onto the TrailManor owners forum web site and started researching what other owners of Toyota 4Runners said about towing TrailManor trailers. After reading a few posts I convinced myself that I needed a Weight Distributing Hitch, so earlier today I found a place that had what I needed in stock and between meetings and working on my 2008 budget, I went and had the hitch installed. It worked great. I took a picture of it but we are recharging the battery on the camera now, so I will upload it in the morning.

We left Houston around 4:30 PM. No problems whatsoever. A little rain, but nothing bad.

We just got through eating at a wonderful Greek Restaurant called Yianni’s (www.yiannisrestaurant.com). We had Hummus, Gyro meet, Dolmathes and some other things that I do not know the name of. It was just WONDERFUL food!

I will write more tomorrow after I rest!

Bye for now
